Selection Process

How the MM100 list is built

The Melanin Money 100 is not a popularity contest, a self-nomination form, or a list bought with sponsorship dollars. It is a rigorous, community-informed recognition of the 100 people who are actually doing the work. Here's exactly how we get there.

The Two-Track Model

Two ways in. One standard.

The MM100 uses two complementary sourcing channels to build the strongest possible candidate pool, while ensuring every name is evaluated the same way.

Track One

Public Nominations

I

The community has eyes everywhere. Public nominations allow the MM100 to surface wealth builders, founders, investors, and leaders who are doing exceptional work in spaces that may not be on the council’s immediate radar.

Community nominations are taken seriously and reviewed with the same rigor as council nominations. Emerging voices and industry-specific operators are often discovered through public submissions.

Public nominations are open for a limited window — submit early.

Track Two

The Selection Council

II

A curated group of trusted industry leaders, operators, and investors who proactively identify and nominate candidates based on direct knowledge of their work. Council members bring deep insight into each Wealth Pillar category and can surface high-impact individuals who may not come through public channels.

Council nominations are not automatic selections. Every name put forward by the council still moves through the same scoring and evaluation process as all other candidates.

Council nominations are proactive & ongoing throughout the selection window.

Evaluation Criteria

What we're actually looking for

Every candidate is scored against these criteria regardless of how they were nominated. A strong nomination explains why someone excels in each of these areas.

Required

Proven Output

Verifiable, real-world results. Revenue, deal volume, ownership, AUM, business scale, a meaningful audience with genuine engagement, or leadership executed at scale.

"If you remove their name, do the results still stand?"

Required

Clear Category Fit

Undeniably strong in one defined lane. Clean alignment to a Wealth Pillar category. Recognized for a specific role or contribution — not broadly positioned without depth.

"Can someone understand why they're on the list in 10 seconds?"

Scored 1–5

Scale of Impact

How many people are actually impacted by this person’s work? Local and niche contributions matter, but the strongest candidates demonstrate influence at scale.

Scored 1–5

Value Creation

Are others benefiting in a real, measurable way? Candidates create opportunities, businesses, or platforms that generate economic, cultural, or social value for people beyond themselves.

Scored 1–5

Consistency

Sustained performance over time or a clear, compounding trajectory of growth. The MM100 recognizes builders, not moments.

"Will they still qualify next year?"

Scored 1–5

Reputation & Integrity

Credibility, integrity, and trust within their industry or community. The MM100 list is only as strong as the integrity of the people on it.

"Would strong operators vouch for them?"

The Wealth Pillars

12 categories. One ecosystem.

What Being Selected Means

More than recognition

Being named to the MM100 reflects more than an honor. It represents a verified track record, a defined lane of leadership, and alignment with how wealth, influence, and legacy are actually evolving.

I

Proven track record of execution

Not potential. Not promise. Results that exist independent of their name.

II

Leadership within a defined category

A clear, defensible reason they are one of the strongest in their Wealth Pillar.

III

Meaningful impact and contribution

Work that reaches beyond themselves and creates real value for others.

Know someone who belongs on this list?

The MM100 Selection Council reviews every public nomination. If you know a wealth builder, founder, investor, or leader doing the real work — put their name in. The honorees will be celebrated live at Wealth Weekend 2026 in July.
